The so-called California Barrel Cactus has hardier genes when found in Utah at elevations up to 4,500 feet.  The large body can be nearly a foot in diameter and up to 3 feet tall.  Golden flowers in early summer with petals brushed burgundy on the backsides.  The golden fruit of autumn might be considered as ornamental as the flowers. The beautiful, broad, twisted spines can be beautiful shades of red and pink.  Zone 6.  Sold in a 2.5-inch pot.
