Finally, we have Chisos Mountains Century plant! This naturally occurring Agave hybrid is thought to be a cross between the native Agave havardiana and Agave lechuguilla. The leaves are narrower than Agave havardiana and wider than lechuguilla. The color ranges from blue to green. This crop is all blue, however. 15" high x 24" wide. Flower...
A vigorous strain with internode growth twice the size of the Colorado strain. Very thick stems. Magenta flowers. This plant crests (fasciates) readily. 72" high and wide. Zone 5. Susceptible to damage by heavy snow. Believed to be from West Texas. Sold as unrooted cutting. Now sold in 2.5" pot.
Deep pink flowers in June on a beautiful, dwarf cushion, very choice. Plump, round pads. No spines, tiny glochids. 4" high by 18" wide. Zone 3. Excellent in outdoor containers. (Claude Barr selection, Canada?) Dry fruit. Sold as rooted, 2.5" potted plant or unrooted cuttings (when available.)
Selected near Santa Fe, NM by Allan Taylor. Stems much redder in the winter than the species. It's a beautiful, robust variety that is more upright than other strains. The Texas Red Yucca is a favorite in our garden. The tubular coral-red flowers are on graceful 4-5 foot high stems from early June through September! It is definitely the hummingbirds' favorite food source. Graceful green foliage turns maroon in winter.
